Attention to those parents who have signed up their sixth graders for dance lessons:
Thank you for signing your children up for the Let’s Dance! Program. Despite what they may think, they are going to have a great time! The first class is this Thursday 11/6, beginning promptly at 6:30 in the RAMS cafeteria. Chaperones will arrive at 6:10 to get their instructions. We will finish at 7:30. Please use the front door of the school for drop off and walk your child in on the first night. Prior years we have just come in and out through the cafeteria door, but for security reasons everyone needs to enter the school through the front door. Also, parents need to come into the school to pick up their kids and check them out. I will not let anyone leave if I don’t see an adult with them.
Dress code was addressed in the sign up form. Please remember blazers and ties for boys and skirts/dresses for girls. No exceptions to this! We must also follow the school dress code: skirts/dresses must be an appropriate length and shoulder straps must be several inches wide (no spaghetti straps or halter style tops.) It is important that all participants follow the dress code, chaperones included. For shoes, comfort is important as they will be walking/dancing for almost the entire hour. Loafers or Sperry-style shoes work best for boys (no sneakers please) and a low heel/flat shoe is best for girls.
We will run the dance classes for 6 consecutive Thursdays, with the exception of Thanksgiving 11/27. The last class 12/18 we celebrate with a little party – cake, drinks, etc. Let me know of any food allergies please.
If for some reason we need to cancel a class, it will not be rescheduled. Weather is usually the only concern. If Holliston schools are cancelled that Thursday, class is cancelled. If there is school but weather conditions deteriorate and we think it is unsafe to travel we will cancel. I will notify everyone via email, so if there is a day with some inclement weather please check email often.
Our instructor, Paul Lamoureaux, has been offering this program for local metro west schools for the past 30+ years. He has incorporated many important lessons into these classes; it’s not just about learning to dance. Social etiquette, interacting with adults/peers, good old-fashioned manners and polite behavior are all covered while fox-trotting to today's current music! A fun experience not to be missed!
If you have any other questions please let me know. I look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday.
