Health Update-Important COVID-19 Test Reminders

Unfortunately over the past couple of weeks, we are seeing an increase in COVID cases within our community.  It is important to contact the school nurse if your child is symptomatic, has been identified as a close contact or has traveled, for guidance about testing and next steps. We are seeing false negatives due to identified close contacts being tested too soon. Discussing your specific situation with the school nurse can help avoid unnecessary repeat testing.  You can reach the nurse’s office directly at 508-429-0659.

Mood Check- Grade 7 ONLY

We are fortunate to be partnering with the Wellesley Center for Women to complete the Mood Check Depression Screening Inventory for all Grade 7 and 10 students this December.  This screening is completely optional, but those parents choosing to opt their child out will need to contact Mr. Powers at

Please click on the link below for more information. Additionally, there will be an information night this Wednesday, December 2 at 7:00 pm via zoom. Please find the zoom link attached in the letter below.

Student Attendance and Term 1 Grades

We highly encourage all families to look at their student’s attendance in PowerSchool.  This is a great resource to see if your student is arriving on time and/or attending all of their classes.  Similarly, term 1 is ending in a little over a week (Dec 11).  Now is a great time to double-check to see if your student is missing any assignments, as there is still time to get some of that work in before the term ends.

If you are struggling with your PowerSchool access, please email Mary McNamara (Network Administrator) at

School Picture Retakes

We will be holding “indoor” picture retakes for any students who wish to participate should bring their photo packet on the designated day.

Grades 6-8 Cohort A: 12/15/20

Grades 6-8 Cohort B: 12/17/20

Term 2 Reminders

Just a reminder that Term 2 will begin on Monday, December 14.  Please be sure to check your child’s PowerSchool accounts for the most up to date grades, and prompt for work completion before term 1 ends on December 11.

Unified Arts will shift at the start of Term 2 to the following:

Grade 6: Music

Grade 7: Art & Computer Science

Grade 8: Wellness

Additionally, students will experience an increase in World Language synchronous times for Term 2. Be sure that your child pays close attention to these minor schedule adjustments reflected in PowerSchool as of December 14.

State Flu Shot Regulations 20-21

Per new state regulations all students are required to receive the Influenza Vaccine by December 31, 2020.

If you have not done so already, please provide documentation of immunization to the nurses as soon as possible.  Thank you for your attention to this very important matter.

Why is it important to get the flu vaccine this year?

It’s likely that flu viruses and the virus that causes COVID-19 will both spread this fall and winter. Healthcare systems could be overwhelmed treating both patients with flu and patients with COVID-19. This means getting a flu vaccine during 2020-2021 is more important than ever.

While getting a flu vaccine will not protect against COVID-19, there are many important benefits, such as:

  1. Flu vaccines have been shown to reduce the risk of flu illness, hospitalization, and death.

  2. Getting a flu vaccine can also save healthcare resources for the care of patients with COVID-19.

Symptomatic Child Reminder

If your child is experiencing cold symptoms, please keep them home and contact your pediatrician for advice regarding COVID testing.  Please don’t send them to school assuming it is just a cold. Many people who test positive for COVID-19 only experience mild symptoms and we want to continue to prevent the spread of illness in our schools.  Also, If your child is being tested please let the nursing office know.

Ski & Snowboard Club Update

Unfortunately, we will be unable to offer a traditional Ski Club this year due to COVID restrictions. However, we are continuing to work with the local mountains in the area to try to provide other opportunities for kids to get out and enjoy Skiing/Snowboarding in a safe environment. Please see the linked details from Nashoba regarding their offerings for kids aged 7-12. Registration opens on Thursday, November 12th at Noon and will fill up quickly! Note - this is a public offering and not restricted to Holliston families. As we have more information about Ski and/or Snowboard programs in the area, we will keep you updated through email and Facebook
