Laps at Lunch- Volunteers Needed!!

Laps at Lunch is a program that provides Adams Middle School students with an opportunity to walk outside in the fresh air, connect with friends, and have a ‘brain break’ during lunch. The program needs Holliston parents to support it! Please use link below to sign-up (coverage needed between 11-12:30pm weekdays) and see the wonderful program in action, and the happy students! You may be uplifted!  *Please note a CORI must be on file to volunteer.

“It lets my daughter know that I care about her well-being and I am willing to take the time to be there for her to get some fresh air and move!” - Cynthia Listewnik, 8th grade parent, School Committee and Wellness Council member

“I like being able to go outside on a nice day because we hardly ever do that.”- 8th grade student at Adams Middle School

Did you know?...Laps at Lunch addresses two of the 19 goals of the Task Force on Student Stress: 1) to expand opportunities for students to be outside during the school day; and, 2) to review the Middle School schedule and provide an opportunity for outside “play”.  Let’s come together as a community and show our children that we care about their health and wellness! Thank you.

Grade 8 Dance

The Grade 8 dance is coming up June 16 from 6:30-9:30pm at Adams Middle School. This year's theme is “A Night in Paris”. Tickets for the dance will go on sale in school at lunch during the week leading up to the event. Cost per ticket is $12.00.

The students have been hard at work planning the event and making decorations. We are now in need of a number of food and refreshment items for the event and some volunteers to help out on the day/night of the dance.  Please explore the Sign-Up Genius links and help out if you possibly can.

Intruder Response Plan Drill

The students and staff of Robert Adams Middle School will be reviewing and discussing  the Intruder Response Plan again on June 5, 2017.  Students will be made aware of this drill during morning announcements the week prior to the drill.

The intruder response plan combines elements of our lockdown and fire evacuation plans but is different in that it asks staff and students to independently assess the situation at hand and make a decision that is most likely to avoid potential harm.  Whenever possible, students will look to and follow the directions of teachers and staff in the building.  However, there may be instances, where students, after trying to seek out the guidance of an adult, make decisions based upon the information that they have at the time.  Some of the options that staff and students will consider might be to hide or evacuate instead of staying in a designated place in their classrooms.

During the June 5th drill, the principal will get onto the intercom and announce the location of an intruder in the building as we would in the event of a real emergency.  Teachers will then facilitate a discussion with students on what possible actions the class could take based on the information given by the announcement.  Teachers may then decide to practice evacuating the building with students.  For the purposes of the drill, the evacuation will resemble that of a fire drill.

Please feel free to email David Jordan,, if you have any questions.  Our schools are safe places and we want all children to know and feel this; however, it is important to prepare for dangerous situations, no matter how unlikely they may be.

Middle School PTO News – for June 2017 PTO Newsletter

On May 1-5, Teacher Appreciation Week was celebrated at RAMS with a daily expressions of gratitude for teachers and staff in the form of meals and treats.  The week started with individually wrapped baked goods put into each mailbox for breakfast. There was also a random drawing of staff names for prizes which were awarded on Tuesday at a Candy Bar in the teacher’s lounge.  Wednesday featured a widely-attended luncheon for teachers/staff including several yummy soups, salads and desserts.  Thursday was Popcorn day, with bags put into staff mailboxes.  Finally, on Friday there was an Ice Cream Social, with a wide range of novelty ice cream, mini cream puffs and eclairs.  The teachers offered their thanks for all of the attention and effort that went into creating a special week to salute them for all they do for our students. Many thanks to the dedicated group of volunteers who made the week truly wonderful.

Originally scheduled for May 25, the 8th Grade Community Service Day had to be postponed due to rain.  Unfortunately, it was not possible to have the seniors attend on the rescheduled date of May 31.  However, much was accomplished by the 8th graders, who did a fantastic job cleaning, clearing, mulching and planting around the grounds of RAMS, Placentino/Miller and the Senior Center.  Their hard work was followed by lunch with pizza, salad and popsicles, and relaxing or playing games in the fields behind the school. Thank you to the teachers and volunteers who supervised the students’ work and served the lunch.  We hope to have the seniors come back next year to enjoy lunch with the 8th graders.

The 8th Grade Dance will be held on Friday, June 16 at the school. The theme for the evening is “A Night in Paris”.  The event is being planned by 8th grader students and teachers.  Refreshments and treats will need to be provided by parents and volunteers – we will be reaching out for donations, so stay tuned.

We have the following MS-PTO Open Positions, and welcome any interest you may have in them. We rely on an incredible group of volunteers like you to keep the organization running in support of programs for our students and teachers.  Please consider giving some of your time - either in a board position or by volunteering for specific events throughout the year. For more information please contact Maura Marczewski, Incoming President – MS-PTO at

Secretary: This position is responsible for taking meeting minutes, presenting them for acceptance to the Membership for approval, and ensures that they are circulated and/or posted as appropriate. (1 hour/month)

6th Grade Carnival Coordinator: This is a short term commitment, usually in November. (8-10 hours) Responsible for organizing this annual event for 6th graders. No need to create the event – it’s been running for 5 years and has been fined-tuned, with all games and components on hand. It is typically on a Friday night in early or mid-November. A committee of volunteers to help plan and run the carnival is gathered in conjunction with the MS-PTO Volunteer Coordinator.
