RAMS News March 1, 2016

posted Mar 4, 2016, 10:05 AM by David Jordan

Dear Parents,

Highlighted are some adjustments and additions to the RAMS News that went out yesterday.  We apologize for the second email.  Of note, the Grade 6 Team 1 Harvard Museum of Natural History field trip is on March 11th, not March 4th.  Grade 6 Team 2 is on March 4th.

Additionally, an advertisement promoting the sales of this year’s yearbook has been added.

Spring Musical: Disney’s The Little Mermaid

In a magical kingdom beneath the sea, the beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney's The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs including "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl," and "Part of Your World."

Ariel, King Triton's youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above and bargains with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull, and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.

The show is April 1 and 2 at 7pm and April 2 and 3 at 2pm. Tickets are $12 and will be available beginning March 21st at Fiske’s and Coffee Haven and the week prior to the show in the cafeteria. Preview Day (meet the characters) is March 12th at the Holliston Public Library from 11-2 (tickets will be available). There are 75-80 RAMS students in the cast and crew.

Parent Coffee Talks

We had another successful Virtual Parent Coffee Talk on Feb 9th.  Thank you to those parents who streamed the video chat live and posted questions.  Topics included workload concerns, technology challenges at home and in school, and student stress.

If you were unable to join us live for the coffee talk, feel free to watch the last two videos by clicking here.

The MS-PTSA will be hosting an in-person coffee talk on March 9, 2016 in the multi-purpose room at the middle school from 8:00-9:00 AM.  There will be a MS-PTSA meeting that follows.

MCAS Spring 2016 Schedule **Changes**

Based on feedback received from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the school has decided to divide Session 2 of the ELA MCAS into two days versus one.  This will mean that there will be three days of testing for ELA; Session 1 (April 4), Session 2A (April 6), and Session 2A (April 7).  New this year is Session 2B, which will be the Narrative Writing Section of PARCC.  The reason for the adjustment is that we cannot reliably predict how long it will take students to complete Session 2A, which has to be completed before starting 2B.

Updated MCAS Spring 2016 Schedule

Random Acts of Kindness

I would like to recognize Katie Randlett, an 8th grader at Adams.  All of last week, Katie quietly performed random acts of kindness for students throughout the building.  This included gestures like notes on lockers, holding the door for students, positive announcements, and hot chocolate for the crossing guards in the morning.  Great job Katie! -Mr. Jordan
