Nature’s Classroom

Another year in the books!  Our 6th grade had a great experience at Nature’s Classroom learning about the world, each other, and nature.  The week started with some challenges with the water at the Hilltop site, but all of the students maintained a good attitude and demonstrated perseverance through it all.  Thank you so much to our parent volunteers and teachers for making the experience so valuable for the students. 8th Grade Slideshow

We are going to continue the tradition of an end of year 8th grade slideshow. This photo montage will feature pictures of your sons and daughters as they have grown up and attended school in Holliston and are soon ready to move on to high school. It will be shown to 8th grade students in the auditorium one of the last days of school. In addition, we will make this video available to parents who wish to watch it at home and save it as a keepsake.

In order to create the best slideshow ever, we need your help with collecting pictures. We are asking that you submit the following in the next three weeks if possible:

1. A baby or toddler picture of your son/daughter (only need 1 of these)

3. Any photos of your son/daughter with other 8th grade friends throughout the years (the more the better!)

These pictures can be submitted in three different ways:

  • E-mail (preferred): You can email your pictures to grade8pictures@holliston.k12.ma.us - Just be sure to include your child’s name in the message

  • Google Drive (preferred): You can share a single photo or folder of images with grade8pictures@holliston.k12.ma.us - Just be sure to include your child's name in the folder or individual image names.

  • USB drive (if necessary): You or your child can drop a flash drive at the office to be put in my mailbox or dropped off at the RAMS library. Be sure to label the drive with your child’s name so the drive can be returned.

***These pictures will be shown in HD and should be at least 1 MB. Small images will be blurry and cannot be used.***

***Only digital pictures will be accepted***

8th Grade Community Service Day

Our 8th Grade Community Service Day is fast approaching.  It is scheduled for May 25th of this year.  Please be on the lookout for communication specific to the event.  As always, we are looking for chaperones.  If you are interested, please email your 8th grader’s homeroom teacher.

Most Likely to Succeed Follow-Up

Many of you attended the screening of Most Likely to Succeed at Holliston High School last week. Thank you for your contribution. The film was a wonderful catalyst for invigorating discussions among our students, staff, parents, and community members and inspired us to re-imagine what is happening in our classrooms.

Our panelists will join us again on Tuesday, May 16 th at RAMS to answer more of your questions and discuss the challenges ahead of us, and how we can work together as a community to find solutions that address the learning needs of our students.

Let’s act together!

Joining us to continue the discussion and bring you a cross-section of knowledge and insights:

  • Mrs. Karla Garvin, HPS Montessori Director

  • Ms. Dominique Ross, HHS Guidance Department Leader

  • Dr. Brad Jackson, HPS Superintendent

If you missed the film, you can review the trailer at www.mltsfilm.org and see excerpts from the film where Sir Ken Robinson and other thought leaders tackle the most important issues facing education today:

We look forward to welcoming you back and continuing the conversation about the changing landscape of education within our community.

Coordinated Program Review

Dr. Bradford Jackson, Superintendent of the Holliston Public Schools was notified by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education of an upcoming Coordinated Program Review that will be taking place this spring.  As part of this Coordinated Program Review, Department staff will visit Holliston during the week of May 22nd.  Such visits are routinely conducted by the Department to satisfy federal and state requirements for the periodic review of specific education programs and services in schools throughout the Commonwealth.  The Department is reviewing several programs during a single visit in order to use Department and school staff’s time most efficiently and to encourage strong connections among the programs.
